Derby Regeneration Scheme 'Making Its Mark'

A new development at Derbyshire County Council's flagship regeneration scheme is set to bring new jobs and boost the local economy.

Plans have been submitted by partner Henry Boot Developments for a 41,000sq ft manufacturing and office complex at Markham Vale off junction 29a on the M1 on behalf of Squadron Medical.

Local firms will be among those invited to bid for the £2 million contract which, if planning is approved, is due for completion later this year.

Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration Councillor Kevin Parkinson said: "This is excellent news for Markham Vale, which is going from strength to strength.

"In fact, Markham Vale is the only site along the M1 corridor building new units in the current economic climate."

So far 61 acres of the 200-acre former coalfield site have been developed in to industrial, manufacturing and commercial space.

Derbyshire County Council has also worked with Henry Boot Developments to build Waterloo Court featuring eight units ranging in size from 3,000 to 15,000 square metres.

Roads and drainage for the first phase of the project are now complete which means new bespoke buildings can be built to tight timescales to meet the current market demands.

The second phase of work will look to provide services including a petrol station, pub, hotel, restaurants and children's nursery.
