The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) published the final employment and skills figures today, showing the combined Olympic Park and Athletes’ Village workforce has peaked and already reduced to 10,989 as the ‘big build’ nears completion.
Cumulative figures showing that 40,341 people have worked on the Olympic Park and Village were also published.
A quarter of the current 10,939 strong workforce are resident in the five Olympic Park Host Boroughs, and more than six out of ten live in London. This is above the target set in 2008 of Host Borough residents making up at least 15 per cent of the construction workforce.
Programmes set up to maximise the 'big build' employment legacy have helped more than 1,580 previously unemployed and local people gain work on the Olympic Park.
More than 3,500 places training people for work on the Olympic Park and other construction sites have been delivered, enabling 457 apprentices to work on the project.
ODA Director of Construction Howard Shiplee said: "The Olympic Park and Village 'big build' is on track and with the main competition venues and infrastructure set to complete one year ahead of the Games, we are exactly where we wanted to be.
"This achievement is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone on the team that has delivered the project to date.
"By meeting our commitments to help provide training and employment opportunities for local and previously unemployed people, the "big build" has also created a positive employment legacy for thousands of people."
