E.ON's Power Station Commercially Available
The third and final unit at E.ON's Grain Combined Heat and Power (CHP) power station in Kent is now commercially available.
Construction and commissioning of the innovative CHP scheme that will provide 'waste' heat in the form of hot water to National Grid's nearby liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal continues and is expected to be fully operational late-2011.
When operational, the export of 340MW of 'waste' heat from the Grain CHP power station will result in a reduction of up to 350,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year by the LNG terminal and allow Grain to achieve an overall efficiency of up to 72%. This will make the new power station one of the most efficient power plants in the UK, and one of the largest CHP schemes in the world.
