Imperial Tobacco has appointed BAM Construction to deliver the company's new corporate headquarters based in Bristol.
The multi-million pound project will see BAM deliver a bespoke four storey concrete framed building with a zinc-clad façade, and extensive glazing and curtain walling.
Sited on Winterstoke Road on land owned by Imperial Tobacco, adjacent to an operational rail line and close to other businesses, the new building will replace existing factory units, and will achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. It will utilise a wide range of natural materials across its 83,000 plus square feet.
The project becomes the latest corporate headquarters that BAM has been appointed to deliver. An FTSE 100 company, Imperial Tobacco joins Severn Trent Water plc, BAE Systems, Network Rail, and the Co-Operative Group among those clients for whom the contractor is delivering, or has recently delivered signature buildings.
Nick Goff, Construction Director for BAM, said: "The market in the South West is extremely competitive and Imperial Tobacco has impressive plans for its new headquarters. Those two factors emphasise the significance of this success to us at BAM. Our track record shows we are equally successful in the commercial sector, especially with highly sustainable projects, as we are in the public sector with schools and hospitals. The team are very enthusiastic to set about creating this new building with the quality and considerate approach we bring to all our projects."
BAM has selected Ross Cameron as its project manager, fresh from delivering the highly regarded Business School for the University of Exeter. Bristol-based Eagle Land will be acting as project managers for Imperial Tobacco, CB Richard Ellis are employer’s agent and Gardiner and Theobald cost consultants. The designers include architects, Bristol-based AWW; structural engineers Fairhurst and Hoare lea for the M+E services.
Work on the project has commenced with the demolition of existing factory units and construction work for the headquarters will commence in earnest in September.
