LDA Selects Notting Hill To Develop Gallions Quarter
The London Development Agency (LDA) has chosen Notting Hill Housing Trust as its preferred developer for Gallions Quarter, a new mixed-use urban centre in the Albert Basin area of the Royal Docks in east London.
Notting Hill Housing Trust propose to build around 700 new homes and 50,000 square feet of retail and community space. Their selection, subject to contract, follows a competitive dialogue process launched in summer 2010, with final tenders received by the LDA in June 2011.
The Royal Docks is London's biggest development opportunity and the London Development Agency is working closely with the London Borough of Newham to realise the full potential of the area. The international marketing of LDA-owned sites at Silvertown Quays and the Royal Albert Dock is now also underway.
LDA Director of Development Stephen Kennard said: "Our vision for the Royal Docks is a place with vibrant communities with high quality homes and lasting employment. As part of that vision, we want to create a new sustainable community in Gallions Quarter and Notting Hill Housing Trust's proposals will do just that - build new homes, new business space and community facilities, all to high quality design standards, helping to create a lasting legacy in the Albert Basin."
Notting Hill Housing Trust has assembled a strong design team involving Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Maccreanor Lavington, MUF Art & Architecture and put together a consortium to complete the development with United House, Durkan & Galliford Try.
