Carillion Awarded £123m Contract
Carillion Canada has been awarded the contract to construct Vaughan Corporate Centre Station, by the Toronto Transit Commission.
This £123 million contract, which forms part of the Toronto to York Spadina Subway Extension project, follows Carillion's success in being awarded a £360 million construction management contract for the revitalisation of Toronto’s Union Station.
Vaughan Corporate Centre Station will be the anchor station to the 8.6 km subway line extension from Downsview Station on the Spadina line in the City of Toronto, to the City of Vaughan.
The two-level, underground station will be a multi-modal transportation hub with on-street passenger pick-up and drop-off and connections to regional bus networks. The station will be constructed primarily from reinforced concrete, with high-quality architectural finishes and a distinctive domed main entrance, which will have integrated skylights that will allow daylight to reach the underground concourse. The concourse will have multiple knockout panels to allow for future rail connections. Construction will start in the Summer of 2011, with completion scheduled for the Autumn of 2014.
Commenting, Carillion Chief Executive, John McDonough, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this major new contract, which reflects the reputation of Carillion Canada for quality and delivery. We look forward to working with the Toronto Transit Commission to deliver this important new multi-modal transport hub."
