BAM To Deliver New M25 Extra Motorway Services Development
BAM Construction in the South East has secured the £25million contract with motorway services provider, Extra Motorway Services Group, to build new facilities for users of the M25.
The development will be located between junctions 9 and 10 on the M25 near to Effingham and Downside on the site previously known as New Barn Farm.
This is Extra's latest development in the UK and will feature a 4306 square metre 'amenity building' to provide retail and food outlet units, a 75-bedroom hotel with associated courtyard with environmental lake areas, approximately 900 spaces for car, caravan, coach and disabled parking, as well as 72 space HGV parking and associated roads, services and landscaping. The facilities are scheduled to open during the summer of 2012.
BAM's Construction Director, Bob Sanders said: "This is a major transport development in a significant location. BAM is extremely pleased to have been chosen by Extra in this single stage tender at a time of strong market competition, and we look forward greatly to forming a strong partnership to deliver facilities that will greatly benefit the lives of Britain’s busy travellers."
The £25 million contract is in addition to a £20 million highway works contract previously awarded and a filling station contract being tendered separately.
Devereux Architects are lead designers for the development with Sawyer and Fisher acting as quantity surveyors. BAM Design is currently designing the Hotel Building. BAM Services Engineering provides structural engineering and mechanical and electrical services to parts of the project.
BAM has appointed Antony Nagle as its Construction Manager. Mr Nagle led the team who recently delivered the highly regarded new wing for the Ashmolean Museum in Oxfordshire.
Main construction work on the amenity building and the hotel commence in mid-August after highways work started in April.
