Balfour Beatty Hands Over First Hull BSF Scheme
Balfour Beatty will hand over the new Sirius Academy & Ganton Special School, part of the Hull Building Schools for the Future programme, to Hull City Council today Friday 19 August.
The newly built academy will provide 1,450 places for young people aged between 11-16 and 200 post-16 learning places. Co-located on the same site will be Ganton Special School and the Education Service for Hearing and Vision (ESHV) for young people aged 11-18 years old.
The £48.5 million academy includes a hydrotherapy pool, three multi-use sports pitches and activity spaces, all of which will be available to the local community.
Pauline Davis, Corporate Director for Regeneration, said: "I am delighted to see the first BSF scheme being handed over to the local authority today, on time and within budget. It is fantastic to see the completed building and I know that when the first pupils arrive in September they will be as impressed with their new school as I am. It is our aim that the Hull BSF programme will provide state-of-the-art facilities that will help drive up attainment levels across the city and also raise the aspirations of our young people and their communities.
"Across the city we are now seeing these iconic new buildings rising from the ground that will be accessible to the whole community and represent a huge amount of investment that will benefit us all.
"I wish all the pupils and staff every success in their wonderful new building"
Allan Grantham, Balfour Beatty Project Director said: "We are extremely proud to be handing over the first academy in the Hull BSF scheme on programme and within budget. The project has allowed Balfour Beatty to deliver a state of the art educational facility for the young people and local community of West Hull.
"In doing so we have also made a positive contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the city by employing local contractors, suppliers, a local workforce and providing apprentices and Prince's Trust placements."
