Design Team Announced For Multi Sport Arena

Derby City Council has announced that MACE Limited is the successful design team chosen to work on Derby's Multi Sport Arena.

The Council received a number of very competitive bids following the tender process for the design phase of the Multi Sport Arena. The MACE bid offered the Council excellent value for money and was sympathetic to Derby's needs and the needs of the Pride Park site.

The exact specification of the Multi Sport Arena will be decided after consultation with local sport clubs and the public. Facilitates in the Arena could include an indoor arena the size of 12 badminton courts, a 250m indoor cycle track, an indoor climbing centre, and a 150 station fitness and wellness centre. The facility could also include two multi-purpose exercise studios, a spinning studio and an outdoor road cycling circuit. It will be able to be transformed into a concert venue with up to 5,000 capacity.

Councillor Hilary Jones, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture said: "I am delighted to announce the contract with MACE Limited. We are confident that we have engaged the best design team to deliver a high quality facility and value for money for the people of Derby."

David Grose of Mace, who is Project Manager for the Arena, said: "Mace is delighted to be entrusted with the delivery of one of Derby's landmark projects, having beaten off stiff competition from eight other firms. It is really encouraging to see that Derby is investing in its future with key regeneration initiatives such as the Arena."

A planning application is due to be submitted in December. If successful, construction of the Multi Sport Arena is due to start in June 2012 and is expected to be completed within two years.
