May Gurney has been named preferred bidder for Cheshire West and Chester Council's waste and recycling contract, which is valued at up to £126 million for a fourteen-year period with the potential for a further seven year extension.
Beginning in April 2012, the new contract involves the collection of waste and recycling from 147,000 households across Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC).
The contract will enable the council to harmonise collection arrangements across the new unitary borough which it inherited from the district councils. It will also enable it to maximise recycling, minimise carbon emissions and reduce costs by at least £1.58 million (15%) per annum.
Services delivered will include May Gurney's MaGO kerbside collection solution; bring banks; processing of food and garden waste; sale of recyclables; cost of replacement containers; and provision of bulking sites, vehicles and plant.
Philip Fellowes-Prynne, Chief Executive of May Gurney, said: "May Gurney continues to consolidate its position as one of the UK's leading providers of front-line services in the municipal waste market.
"This new contract supports CWaC's commitment to delivering higher recycling rates, improved customer service and value for money. Our proven expertise in developing and delivering bespoke front-line service solutions and supporting our clients' efficiency goals underpins our continued growth."
