Smokers 'Breathe Fresh Air' At Belfast International
It is now several months since the Smokers Gallery opened at Belfast International
Airport where the airport building is a no smoking zone.
Passengers awaiting departure, after passing through security checks, can pay a one pound fee for the privilege of smoking a cigarette or two before they board their flight and the facility has gone down well with both smokers and non smokers alike.
The Airport says that the new levy was introduced to off-set the cost of building the new Smoking Gallery. In a statement from Belfast International Airport it stated: "We recognised that there was a demand for a smoking facility from some customers given that all public places (including airports ) are now, and have been for a number of years, non smoking."
The Airside Smokers Gallery is a bespoke fabricated steel structure attached to the Departure Lounge building.
It is suspended approx 10m above ground level and measures approx 4m x 7m. For strength and security, the floor of the unit was constructed using a galvanised steel mesh system.
Deck25 anti slip, plastic composite decking was used to create the decked floor of the Smoking Gallery. The colour; Designer black was chosen to contrast and compliment the greys of the steel work and building.
Deck25 plastic composite decking was selected because of it's exceptional anti-slip qualities, particularly when wet.
It is virtually maintenance free and is a 90% recycled eco product: Deck25 is a hybrid of recycled plastic bottles, yoghurt pots and wood fibre. Deck25 decking is a solid board throughout it's 25mm depth.
