Mansell Secures £18.5m Contract
Mansell has secured a £18.5 million contract to design and build a mixed use development at 465/465a Caledonian Road, Islington for Mortar Developments.
The project will provide 350 student accommodation units across 12 levels alongside retail and office space. The existing buildings will be demolished with the exception of a three-storey façade which is being retained and incorporated into the new development.
The accommodation will comprise a mixture of 76 studio flats, 38 adaptable units and 236 units in cluster arrangements. The development will also include 673m² of retail area on the ground floor as well as 589m² of office space across three floors at the north end of the site.
This project aims to achieve a BREEAM "Excellent" rating and is planning to employ low and zero carbon technology energy options in the form of solar photovoltaic panels and a combined heat and power system.
Demolition is currently underway. The contract will be handed over in June 2013, for occupation in the 2013/2014 academic year.
