A basement of a large home in Manchester is actually going to be transformed into three basement rooms each with their own specific function!
The basement conversion will be part of a development project where the large house is currently used for student dwelling.
Three rooms as mentioned will be created as part of the basement conversion project. Room one is going to be a kitchen; this will act as a communal dining area for all the students who are living in the dwelling. It will be an open plan kitchen so there will be plenty of room for the students to cook rather than living student live and eating countless takeaways!
Room two will be a chill out room where the students can have some time out from their studies, watch some TV and there will even be a pool table in there so they can challenge one another or just have a casual game.
When the fun is over though and it is back to being serious and learning, the third room will become a study room. This will be a quiet place where the students can come out their room in order to get some work done whilst being in a relaxing atmosphere.
The basement conversion though wouldn’t be possible unless a professional went to take a look and to specify an appropriate basement waterproofing plan. This is where Basement Living came onboard; specifying a full waterproofing system we decided that damp proof membrane would need to be applied to all walls.
In addition to the damp proof membrane we decided that because this was a student dwelling we would fit the basement rooms with a sump, pump and alarm system. This would work by diffusing any water ingress away from the building and into a safe place. The alarm system would only sound and notify someone if a dangerous water level was reached.
When finished the basement conversion will be the envy of all other students - Or at least we hope! It provides the students with a space which is practical whilst servicing a number of their needs.
Basement Living are just wondering how long it will stay clean for!
