The Church was founded on 16th October 1837 on its present site by the evangelist and educationalist Henry Battiscombe, Fellow of King's College, Cambridge, who had seceded from the Church of England.
It grew rapdily and was constituted as a church of 'Evangelical Protestant Dissenters of the Particular Baptist Denomination holding the principles of Open Communion'.
by 1876 a larger Chapel was required, which was eventually opened in 1879, and by the turn of the century the church had reached its zenith with 500 members and 680 in the Sunday School.
The basement of the church was suffering water ingress, and the main contractor Hutton Construction awarded approved Vandex contractor, Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd the contract to Waterproof the existing basement walls and floor, together with carrying out DPC injection works.
The internal brick walls were drilled and injected Safeguard Dampcheck Plus Chemical Damp Proof Course 150mm above floor level.
Vandex Unimortar 1 was spray applied to the previously prepared external perimeter walls applying as a backing seat render coat.
