Waterloo Housing Group are building over 100 new affordable homes in Kettering Borough for local families to move into next year, as result of our new partnership with Kettering Borough Council.
The new partnership is bringing two significant housing developments to fruition, with the help of two local developers and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the government's national housing and regeneration body.
A £7.25 million development of 68 new affordable homes is nearing completion at Bridle Road in Burton Latimer. Meanwhile, work is now underway on a £4.84 million housing development at the site of Tresham College’s former campus at St Mary’s Road in Kettering.
A range of new houses and bungalows will be completed for us at the Bridle Road site between March and May 2012 by Westleigh Partnership Homes. These will feature two, three and four bedroom homes for rent, as well as to part-buy and part-rent through shared ownership.
With the key support of North Northants Development Company (NNDC), the St Mary’s Road scheme is seeing developer William Davis start work on building the foundations for 40 affordable homes for us.
Featuring a selection of smaller homes, such as one and two bedroom apartments, together with larger family houses, this site will also offer opportunities for rent and for shared ownership. The new affordable housing, planned to sit alongside some new private retirement apartments, will be ready by December 2012. Importantly, it will help regenerate this key gateway area to Kettering town centre.
Across the two sites, the new energy-efficient homes include a range of features to help keep running costs low for residents, such as solar panels, heat recovery systems and high levels of insulation.
Anthony Riley, Group Director of Development and Operations at Waterloo, said: "It is very rewarding to be working with the Borough Council and other partners to build new affordable homes in Kettering. The benefit is not only in providing much-needed homes, but in stimulating the local economy with construction employment and related spending."
