Scott Beaven Radius Ltd have completed supply of ironmongery to the stunning new Kings Cross redevelopment.
We were engaged on this project by the architect John McAslan & Partners back in 2007 which eventually led to supplying the bulk of the ironmongery in 2011 (for project completion in 2012). In fact such was the length of time involved that this period saw the Company working with some 10 different architects at JMP as well as Scott and Stephen undertaking a management buy-out of the Company and the retirement of Mr Beaven. An eventful 4 years indeed.
Working to tight deadlines from the off with a brief for stylish and durable ironmongery, Scott Beaven were involved by Associate Director Simon Goode who we had previously worked with on the British Embassy, Algiers at JMP and prior to that the Stirling Prize nominated Evelina Children’s Hospital whilst at Hopkins.
Our contemporary solid, grade 316 stainless steel, flat section F03.1008 lever handle was chosen with JMP adding an aesthetically pleasing disc return that saw the conception of what we now call our F01.1008 lever. Complimented by flat section pull handles (of varying lengths) and heavy duty functional components such as Dorma lockcases and door closers and maintenance free hinges this has ensured a high specification throughout.
Numerous co-ordination meetings saw us working with the likes of Pascall + Watson, Taylor Woodrow, Vinci Construction, Houston Cox Eastern, Prima Doors, Mivan, Lee Warren, Fendor Hansen, Swift Horsman and Network Rail. We were also able to adapt our lever to be able to work with the proposed Salto XS4 unit by engineering the shank and reducing the weight to their satisfaction.
The result of this £180m redevelopment will be open for all to see in 2012 and we are very proud to have been associated with this iconic project which we believe is testament to our ability to handle ironmongery contracts on a grand scale and a re-affirming shot in the arm to our commitment to UK Manufactured door furniture.
