Kier Construction To Unveil New Leisure Centre
Swimmers in south Bristol have a lot to look forward to in 2012 as the city council and its leisure provider partner, Parkwood Community Leisure (PCL) get ready to open the state-of-the-art Hengrove Park pool and leisure centre on 29th February.
Built by Kier Construction and boasting a 10-lane, 50m Olympic-standard pool with a teaching pool and movable floor, the new Hengrove Park pool offers swimmers the very best in public facilities. The pool is just one element of the £32m leisure development, which promises to transform sport and leisure facilities in the city.
And with less than five weeks to go before the Hengrove Park pool and leisure centre opens its doors, staff at Bishopsworth Pool are undergoing hands-on, on-the-job training to ensure a smooth move to the new pool. As part of pre-opening preparations, regular swimmers at Bishopsworth Pool are being invited to take a close look at what Hengrove Park leisure centre has to offer and be amongst the first to test the water and make a splash.
"Our ambitious plans for swimming and leisure opportunities in south Bristol are really coming to fruition," said Councillor Simon Cook, deputy leader and cabinet member for capital programme, sport and culture. "Hengrove Park Leisure Centre will be the city's flagship sporting facility, offering local people a fantastic mix of swimming and fitness activities. The pool is of such a high standard it has attracted the attention of the Kenyan Olympic swimming squad, who will use the pool as part of their Olympic preparations."
