Phase One Of Bus Station Works Completed Ahead Of Schedule

Phase one of essential maintenance works at Queensgate Bus Station will be completed ahead of schedule meaning phase two can begin four days sooner than first planned.

Phase one of the project resulted in the closure of bays 1a to 10 and was scheduled to be completed by Sunday 12 February 2012 to allow the second phase to begin the day after.

However, even though the unforeseen bad weather made progress more difficult, works have still been completed quicker than anticipated, meaning buses which usually leave from bays 1a to 10 at Queensgate Bus Station will return to normal from Thursday 9 February 2012.

Phase two, which will result in the closure of bays 10a to 20, will begin on Thursday 9 February 2012.

Cathy Summers, Passenger Transport Team Manager for Peterborough City Council, said: "Our original schedule was for the bus station to be open fully from Monday 20 February 2012. Phase one has been completed ahead of schedule so we are hopeful that phase two will follow suit and the bus station will fully re-open before this date.

"We know that the essential works to improve passenger facilities at the bus station are causing an inconvenience to some passengers for a relatively short period, but we are trying to lessen the disruption as far as possible.

"We appreciate the patience of passengers thus far and will continue to press for the works to be completed as quickly as possible."
