E.ON Commits To A Simpler Energy Market

E.ON has provided detailed feedback to Ofgem concerning its retail market reform proposals and indicated that it will broadly support the energy regulator's proposals.

Ofgem has indicated that its proposals are designed to help make the energy marketplace clear and simple for consumers and they come at a time when E.ON's Reset Review has begun to deliver changes that will benefit its millions of customers.

Through consultation and discussion with customers and consumer advocacy groups, the Reset Review initiative has already resulted in revisions to the company's direct debit policy and a reduction by a quarter of tariffs available to new customers - small but important steps forward towards rebuilding customer trust.

Commenting on the changes made and those that lie ahead, E.ON UK Chief Executive, Dr. Tony Cocker said: "We support moves by Ofgem to reduce complexity in the market, which is an aim we share through our own Reset Review. Whilst we had our doubts about how Ofgem was doing this, through greater intervention in a competitive market, it's clear that something has to change if we are to re-establish the industry's relationship with its customers. Therefore, we have listened and we are ready to get behind this market changing move.

"It's essential that all energy companies, the regulator and consumer groups continue to try and work together to ensure that the detail of the final plans match all of our ambitions of a simple retail energy market which all customers can have confidence in. We promise to spare no effort in playing our part in helping to deliver for consumers.

"This is the beginning of an important period for us as our Reset Review is starting to deliver the changes we need to make. There's still a long way to go but with the ongoing involvement of our customers, through our 28,000 strong YourSay panel, consumer advocacy groups and our influential independent Customer Council along with our tens of thousands of dedicated E.ON colleagues we're heading towards being the company everyone wants us to be."
