Midas Supports Labourer With H&S Work Experience

Midas Group's Health & Safety Manager Perry Osborne recently hosted a number of work experience visits to support former labourer Bill Boulter's quest for a Health & Safety qualification.

34 year old Zimbabwe born Bill has been working on Midas' Morrison's contract in Woking when he met Perry who was impressed that Bill was self-funding a NEBOSH Diploma course (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health).

With encouragement from Brian McAllan, his project manager at Woking, Bill was invited to make some site visits including a science building at Exeter University, a housing development for Blue Cedar Homes at Wrington near Bristol, the John Lewis development in Exeter, a new factory development at Hillbarton and a large Morrisons retail development in Exeter to gain practical experience and to meet with Andrew Johnston, director of Midas Energy for a management perspective of health & safety issues.

Bill went on to visit the major 260 unit sustainable housing project at Bulford Camp in Salisbury, a Mi-space project on behalf of Lend Lease and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).

Mr Osborne said: "We were very impressed with Bill's personal commitment to gaining a H&S qualification and we have been very happy to help him gain some 'hands-on' experience.

"At Midas, we are equally committed to encouraging people to improve their knowledge in all aspects of the construction industry. It is an important part of the Group's values that we should be positive and forward looking in our corporate social responsibility programme which makes a significant contribution to our aim of providing industry leading services."
