Mansell Scoops £1.2m Redevelopment Project

Mansell has won a prestigious £1.2 million redevelopment project at London's Charles Dickens Museum.

Great Expectations Project is a complex job involving the refurbishment of 48 Doughty Street and the partial refurbishment of 49 Doughty Street (Grade 1 listed five-storey terraced houses in a busy residential area). A new extension, including a lift to the rear of 49 Doughty Street and from lower ground floor to second floor, and various mechanical and electrical works will also be carried out.

The redevelopment of Charles Dickens' former home is the most significant legacy project of his bicentenary. It is essential to help the museum cope with increasing visitor numbers, which will result in a better user experience and a wider range of activities through which to appreciate Dickens' immense literary heritage.

The project is being funded mainly by the Heritage Lottery Fund and will be completed in time to celebrate a Dickensian Christmas.

Work starts in April 2012 for 28 weeks, with completion in phases by November 2012.
