The National Federation of Builders (NFB) popular Stay Safe, Stay Away campaign has been shortlisted for a prestigious Excellence Award by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
Now in its ninth year, the increasingly popular national safety poster competition sees schoolchildren (key stage 1 – 2) from across the country being invited to take part. Children are asked to design a poster that warns of the danger of building sites and how to keep themselves and others safe and avoid unnecessary serious injuries.
The dangers posed by construction sites is a national problem which in 2010 / 2011 saw 17 children injured and one sadly killed as a result of being on or around construction sites. The NFB believes that raising awareness and educating schoolchildren about the hazards of building sites and how to stay safe, is a positive step to reducing the numbers who end up in hospital every year.
Shortlisted in the category of Corporate Responsibility, the 2011 campaign was sponsored by Building & Civil Engineering Schemes (B&CE), Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), various NFB local associations and federations, and supported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) and Construction Minister Mark Prisk.
The CIPR Excellence Awards provide recognition of the hard work and achievements of practitioners from across the public relations industry. A team of more than 50 judges have selected those shortlisted and these entrants will now be invited to attend a panel interview, with the judges being joined by an additional 30 professionals from disciplines associated with the profession. Together, these expert panels of judges will select the award winners.
Winners will be announced on Monday 28 May 2012 at the CIPR Excellence Awards Dinner at the London Hilton Park Lane.
