Waterloo Housing Group Introduces New Scheme
A scheme built by Waterloo Housing Group is providing independent supported living to young people with learning disabilities in Lincolnshire.
The Rookery Court development in Boultham Park, Lincoln, consists of 16 one- and two-bedroom apartments and bungalows. It is managed by Linkage Community Trust, which is a charity for learning disabled people.
Luke Williams, a resident in one of the new properties, said: "It's so amazing here. I have made loads of good friends and get lots of support from the staff. I like everything here – I'm independent!"
Built for Waterloo by contractor Lindum, the total cost of the scheme was £1.55 million. This includes investment of £550,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency, as well as recycled grant from City of Lincoln Council and a contribution from Linkage.
The homes represent the first phase of Linkage’s plans to regenerate the historic area of Boultham Park. A future phase is planned with the City of Lincoln Council, with the organisations waiting for the outcome of a bid for Heritage Lottery funding. These plans involve Linkage creating an educational block within the restored stable and coach house, plus developing a commercial greenhouse, shop and café – all providing training and employment opportunities for Linkage residents and service users.
Dave Pickering, Group Chief Executive at Waterloo, said: "It is rewarding for us to be able to contribute our specialist skills in housing development to help Linkage with its exciting and important plans for Boultham Park. Together, and with additional investment from the Homes and Communities Agency, we are pleased to have provided these new quality homes where young people can thrive by living independently with support."
