Kier Consortium Selected PFI Partner For Multi-Million Pound Programme

Blue3, a consortium comprising Kier and Infrastructure Fund Manager (DIF) as 50% co-investors, has been selected to deliver the design, build, financing and maintenance of nine fire stations on behalf of the London Fire Brigade.

The selection of Blue3 marks the end of the procurement of a major private finance initiative (PFI) contract.

In June 2013 Kier Construction is expected to begin works, valued at £45m, to replace and make major improvements to Dagenham, Dockhead, Leytonstone, Mitcham, Old Kent Road, Orpington, Plaistow, Purley and Shadwell fire stations. Each will be energy efficient and contain the latest green technology.

On their completion, Kier Services will fully manage the facilities for 25 years, in a contract valued at around £700k per annum.

Assistant Commissioner (Technical and Service Support) Andy Hickmott said: "This is excellent news for the capital. Some of our fire stations are over 100 years old. Not only will these new fire stations provide state of the art facilities for our crews, with room for modern fire appliances and training, they will also be kitted out with community spaces that will allow members of the public to easily access vital life saving fire safety advice."
