Social landlord Riverside has awarded Lovell a £3.7 million contract to build 40 new affordable homes in historic Bromborough Pool Village on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside.

The 40 new three-bedroom houses will be built at four sites in the village and will create 14 homes for social rent and 26 properties for shared ownership. The new housing forms part of Riverside’s major regeneration programme for Bromborough Pool, one of the UK’s earliest industrial villages, built in 1854 to provide homes for workers at the nearby Price’s candle factory.


Lovell, based locally in John Street, Birkenhead, was chosen through a competitive tendering process as part of Riverside’s Cutting Edge framework. The new housing, located within a conservation area, is set to be completed in June 2013.

Lovell regional director Nigel Yates said: "These new affordable homes will provide much-needed rented housing and shared ownership homes enabling local people to get on to the property ladder. We have a long-standing relationship with Riverside and are delighted to be working with the organisation at Bromborough Pool, using our expertise in creating high-quality, affordable homes to help ensure that the village continues to be a sustainable and thriving community."
