Strategic Team Group Lays Foundations For £15m Housing Contract
A contractor has started building nearly 150 new social houses across Yorkshire in a deal worth £15 million.
Strategic Team Group won the work with Yorkshire Housing and will build 144 new homes at affordable rent levels in Barnsley (two schemes), Wakefield, Bradford and Leeds.
Some of the new homes will replace existing properties and others will be constructed on previously undeveloped land.
Strategic Team Group is building 25 two, three and four-bedroom semi detached properties in Eccleshill, Bradford on land in Oakdale Drive and Ravenscliffe Avenue that was previously occupied by two-storey bedsits.
The two and three-storey homes will have private gardens, off street parking and will be completed in November.
Some 37 new homes in Madeley Road, Wakefield are being constructed on a three-acre plot and will be finished in April 2013.
A previously demolished housing estate in Lundwood, Barnsley sees 30 two and three-bedroom semi detached and terraced houses built along with a new road network and landscaping works.
Homes will have private gardens separated by railings and walls at the front and fences at the rear before the scheme is completed in March next year.
Strategic Team Group's second site in Barnsley sees a further 30 properties being built on previously undeveloped land in Monk Bretton, which will be finished next April.
Due to a considerable slope, some of the homes will be of split-level design featuring retaining wall structures and the scheme will also include utility services, an access road, private off-street parking and landscaping.
Strategic Team Group starts its fifth scheme for Yorkshire Housing next month in Pudsey, Leeds with the construction of 22 two and three-bedroom houses.
Developed on an island site bounded by Waterloo Grove, Waterloo Mount and Ingham's Avenue, it will take 12 months to complete.
Managing Director at Strategic Team Group, Andrew Watson, said: "We have carried out extensive work for Yorkshire Housing for many years and together these schemes amount to a significant piece of work that will make a big difference to local communities.
"The homes will be of high quality design and build, sustainable and play a major role transforming each of the five sites.
"Some of the developments are unlocking previously unused land and this will make a significant difference addressing the demand for social housing in these areas."
