Morgan Sindall staff from around the UK took part in a week-long series of environmentally friendly activities to celebrate the company’s nationwide 'Sustainability Week' initiative.
Morgan Sindall's sites and offices took part in a range of themed events from 14 -18 May. Activities included a 'big switch off' day on the Monday where employees switched off unnecessary appliances, a ‘water wise’ day to reduce water wastage on the Tuesday, a programme of health and safety discussions were held across the business on Wednesday and a ‘green transport’ day took place on the Thursday, when staff cycled into work or used public transport. A community engagement day was the focus on the Friday where the Executive Team took part in the Business in The Community Give and Gain Day, running a series of sporting activities for school children at Tipton Sports Academy in the West Midlands.
Employees across the length and breadth of the country took part in local community engagement activities. These included charity fundraising events and litter-picks, making a positive difference to the communities in which Morgan Sindall works.
Brian Handcock, head of sustainability and environment at Morgan Sindall, said: "The week was a great success and I am proud of everyone’s efforts. This was not only enjoyable but we have also gathered some useful information which is important in our aim to achieve our total commitment to sustainability. By taking simple actions across our business we can make a large overall impact. We intend to repeat the event next year with even more success."
Sustainability Week forms part of Morgan Sindall’s ongoing commitment to being a sustainable organisation. A Roadmap for Sustainability has been created which provides a detailed action plan to further embed sustainability throughout the company.
