Nursery School Celebrates New Home In Sheffield
Young children at a Sheffield nursery are looking forward to settling into a new home at the centre of Park Hill. Grace Owen Nursery, which has been at Park Hill for 50 years, has had plans approved to relocate their nursery to a new space in the landmark building as part of the regeneration of the wider Park Hill development.
The Grade 2 Listed building stands tall on one of the city's seven hills. Its developer, Urban Splash, working in partnership with Sheffield City Council, Great Places and the Homes and Communities Agency, has been making the complex more and more vibrant for both residents and visitors.
Once the new nursery has been re-located, the children and families who use it will be able to benefit from fantastic indoor and purpose built outdoor space. Most importantly, the nursery being located here will help the continued regeneration of Park Hill and will be an asset to the development, joining a new and growing community of residents and businesses.
Sheffield City Council will be fitting out the relocated nursery and it will be funded from various external funding schemes, including the Local Growth Fund. Discussions are taking place about the future use of the nursery's old site.
Councillor Jackie Drayton, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "Grace Owen Nursery, at the heart of the Parkhill, has been loved and appreciated by all the children and families who have attended over the years, so it’s wonderful to know it will continue to provide much needed early years services for the residents and community in its new premises. The Nursery will benefit from the world class landscape that is being created all around it and it will be a real asset in this groundbreaking regeneration project."
Chairman of Urban Splash Tom Boxham MBE said: "This is another good piece of news for the regeneration of Park Hill. It will provide a fantastic new home for Grace Owen Nursery - one of the best in Sheffield. The nursery will be a great complement to the homes, offices, landscaping and retail that will be an integral of Park Hill and I am looking forward to when it opens in 2013."
Work is expected to start in summer 2012.
