E.ON Confirms Final Demolition Timetable For Its High Marnham Site

E.ON has confirmed the final demolition timetable for its High Marnham site in north Nottinghamshire meaning that the five remaining cooling towers will be brought down at 10am this Sunday, 15th July 2012.

Preparatory work began on the site of the former coal-fired power station in May and the final stages of demolition have now been reached. Following the demolition of the towers extensive clear-up work will continue on site for many months.

Neil Riley, Head of Generation Development for E.ON UK said: "I know the announcement of the final demolition timetable will be met with sadness by the many people who worked at the power station but it is essential that we remove the remaining towers as they are in danger of becoming unsafe and they cannot be used again as part of any new development.

"We will invite a number of current E.ON colleagues who used to work at the site to a secure area near the site to watch the demolition but we have been asked by the police to make clear that there will be no public viewing area. This is due to concerns surrounding the safety of potential spectators and the problems that would be caused to traffic in the area."

E.ON will continue to work with its contractors to discharge the Waste Management Licence which encompasses the safe demolition of the five towers and the remediation works that will continue for a number of months following the demolition.

E.ON also confirmed that the demolition of the remaining cooling towers does not represent a change in stance regarding future development at High Marnham.
