VINCI Construction UK has successfully reached a significant milestone in the construction of the new bus facility in Stoke-on-Trent city centre, with the completion of the steel frame comprising 240 tonnes of complex curved steelwork.
VINCI Construction UK is the principal contractor designing and building the landmark bus station which forms the first phase of the Realis Estate’s £350million regional shopping centre, City Sentral.
Council leader, Councillor Mohammed Pervez said: "Work on the construction of the state of the art new city centre bus station is well underway and will be completed by the end of the year and opened early next year. It is wonderful to see the steelwork in place, this is a landmark development to be proud of."
Councillor Ruth Rosenau, cabinet member for Regeneration, Planning and Transportation said: "This station will provide purpose built new facilities for passengers in the heart of the city, creating a great impression for those visiting the area.
"It is an exciting development with a striking and unique design."
The unusual curved design of the development was the vision of the international award-winning architect Grimshaw, designers of the Eden Project in Cornwall and the International Terminal at London Waterloo station.
SBS Architects from Manchester are the practice working with VINCI Construction UK to deliver the final phase on site.
