EDF Energy Offers A No Price Rise Guarantee For The Next Two Winters

EDF Energy has launched a Blue +Price Promise April 2014 which offers customers the chance to fix their energy prices for the next two winters – but with the freedom to leave at anytime without paying an exit fee.

EDF Energy, which is Britain's largest generator of nuclear-backed low carbon electricity, said households concerned about their energy bills could protect themselves against any potential price increases until April 2014.

That means customers signing up to the new tariff will be guaranteed their energy prices will not increase over the colder autumn and winter months, when typically households use most energy. And customers will get the best of both worlds by being able to change supplier if they find a better deal at any point during that time without having to pay any exit fee.

Based on a national average of regional prices, the annual dual fuel bill for a customer on Blue +Price Promise April 2014, paying by monthly direct debit, will be £1058.22 a year at typical consumption. Based on these assumptions, it is currently the cheapest fixed price product on the market for a customer looking to fix for the next two winters.

EDF Energy, the official electricity supplier to London 2012, said the new tariff would replace its hugely successful Blue +Price Promise September 2013, which was launched earlier this year.

In an unprecedented move within the industry, EDF Energy promised to inform Blue +Price Promise customers if another energy provider is offering a tariff which could save them £1 a week – that's £52 a year- or more at typical consumption.

Blue +Price Promise September 2013 will no longer be available to new sign-ups from Friday, August 3. But the new Blue tariff will come with the same ground-breaking features as its predecessor.

This includes not only a highly competitive fixed price, no exit fees and the price promise, but also a guarantee that the electricity a customer uses will be matched by low carbon electricity generated by nuclear power stations. EDF Energy's Blue products are the first time domestic customers have been able to buy a nuclear product, offering a low carbon, safe and secure energy source.
