Cemplas Lays Ronacrete Resin Bonded Aggregate To Farms Driveway

Construction News Image
Whilst Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were installing a Delta Cavity membrane system to the basement of the main house on a large farm in Cobham Surrey, the main contractor who was also acting as the agent for the building owners appointed the flooring division of Cemplas to lay 600m2of Ronacrete Resin Bonded aggregate surface to the Farms main driveway.

A number of different finishes were shown to the client who eventually settled on their own 75/25 aggregate mix known as "Autumn Crunch". Prior to Cemplas applying the Resin Bonded aggregate a tarmac substrate was laid by Tidey and Webb, and the main contractor erected safety fencing and warning signs to direct a safe passage and ensure a clearly defined work area for the Cemplas operatives.

The first task for Cemplas was to ensure the newly laid tarmac was jet washed to remove any surface contaminates. This was followed by installing the edge trim to retain the resin which was applied over a 2-day period. The client was very particular to ensure that the driveway would look as original as possible and once laid would give the

appearance the driveway was one continuous surface with no visible day joints.

Prior to installing the resin Aggregate it was decided not to use the standard aluminium edge trim but instead to install their own metal edge trim as this was robust enough to act as the retaining curb prior to the tarmac installation. To ensure the metal trim was installed level but also followed the contour of the grass curb a laser level was used during the installation process. The grass would then be allowed to grow over the edge thereby hiding any evidence of the metal trim.

On completion of the works the client was delighted with the final appearance which Cemplas delivered on time and within budget. The typical areas of use for Resin Bound systems are driveways, ramps, paths, large landscaping areas, balconies, roof gardens, roads, patios, podium decks, car parks and general public areas, to create an aesthetically pleasing appearance which is achieved by using a range of different colours and aggregate sizes.
