Restoration of the historic Stone House Hospital site at Dartford is making excellent progress with the first phase of the redevelopment now complete.
Stone House's first residents have settled into 16 new and 10 refurbished homes at the Cotton Lane development and further phases have been released ahead of schedule to meet demand. Covering an area of 6.1ha, the former hospital site dates from the 1860s and was acquired by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as part of its drive to bring public land back into use and deliver homes. The agency has been working with its development partners, the PJ Livesey Group and Ward Homes, to deliver a total of 260 homes on this prominent site.
The refurbishment of the Grade II listed buildings by the PJ Livesey Group will provide 93 homes, mostly comprising two and three bedrooms, while Ward is building 154 new homes. Both new build and conversions conform to a high standard of design and sustainability. Moat Housing Association is managing 23 affordable homes and the regeneration of Stone House is strongly supported by Dartford Borough Council.
Terry Fuller, Executive Director for East and South East England said: "The delivery of this complex scheme has required a high level of expertise and commitment from all the partners involved. The quality of the development, especially the refurbished buildings, is outstanding and it incorporates an impressive range of environmental features alongside a large area of recreational space. Close attention to detail has been paid at the planning and design stages and throughout the construction process to ensure that Stone House will be a great place to live and retain its status as a prominent local landmark."
