The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Rushcliffe Borough Council have agreed a deal to transform Cotgrave, the former mining town, creating 444 new homes and 12,600 sq m of employment space for local businesses.
Housebuilder Barratt Developments has been selected as the developer on the £100m scheme, which will include a range of affordable homes to rent as well as homes for sale under the Barratt and David Wilson Homes brands, in addition to a high quality business area that will support the creation of new jobs.
Current proposals include a mix of housing on the colliery site, landscaped within green wildlife corridors leading to a country park. The green theme is expected to continue with closer links to the town centre area, perhaps with additional elements of natural woodland.
In the town centre, a multi-service centre will be developed with investment from Rushcliffe Borough Council along with Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottinghamshire Police and the Primary Care Trust, which will offer a range of services for local people under one roof.
The commercial development on the colliery business park and town centre will be delivered by Barratt Developments’ specialist commercial development arm, Wilson Bowden Developments.
Expected to take around eight years to complete, Barratt has committed to provide more than 200 local training and employment opportunities and encourage local businesses to participate in the provision of goods and services.
Land at Cotgrave is owned by the HCA. Head of Midlands North, Graham Dobbs, said: "We know through working closely with Rushcliffe Borough Council that Cotgrave is a local priority and we were keen to use our land to create jobs, homes, and businesses, and support local economic growth for the town and its existing community. We are really pleased to be supporting the Council and other local partners to transform Cotgrave and it’s great to have selected Barratt so we can push on and get development underway."
