Costain has been awarded a one-year framework to carry out minor civil work for Anglian Water, which supplies 1.2 billion litres of water every day to its customers in the east of England and Hartlepool.
Commencing immediately, the framework consists of undertaking small scale repairs of buildings across the Anglian Water estate.
The company operates 1,257 water and wastewater treatment works, or around a quarter of all those in England and Wales.
Anglian Water provides wastewater services to more than six million domestic and business customers in a region that stretches from the Humber north of Grimsby, to the Thames estuary and from Buckinghamshire to Lowestoft on the east coast.
The region includes 1,240 km of coastline which means the treated wastewater has to pass strict quality standards set by law and by water regulator, Ofwat, before it can be returned to nature.
The framework is Costain's first with Anglian Water and demonstrates the ongoing success of its 'Choosing Costain' strategy, which is focused on targeting the blue-chip customers in chosen sectors whose major spending plans are underpinned by strategic national needs, regulatory commitments or essential maintenance requirements.
Costain's strategy is both to build on the group's current strengths and to broaden and improve the quality of earnings streams by accelerating the development of an integrated business, providing front-end engineering consultancy, construction and on-going care and maintenance services.
