New Alder Hey Gets Go-Ahead

Construction News Image
The new Alder Hey has moved one step closer, following Liverpool City Council's planning approval.

The Planning Committee had already granted outline planning permission of the redevelopment of Alder Hey last year.

In May this year, Alder Hey revealed that Acorn had been selected as the Preferred Bidder for the project and unveiled stunning pictures of the new hospital. The new building will be built in Springfield Park, next door to the current site, and once the building is constructed the existing Alder Hey will be demolished and turned into a replacement park. The new Alder Hey will sit right in the heart of the park, surrounded by green space which can be seen from almost every window.

Following confirmation of the chosen design, Alder Hey needed the Council’s approval on its reserved matters planning application, which focused on the main hospital building, the multi-storey car park and the relocation of the Nelson Monument in Springfield Park.

During the meeting, the Planning Committee considered the new hospital’s layout, design, appearance and landscape. They were given information gathered from a public consultation with the local community back in May, alongside comments received from the Design Council in July.
