A new £20 million waste treatment plant that will convert household waste into Solid Recovered Fuel has been commissioned and is nearing completion within Wiltshire.
Crediton-based South West Galvanizers, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has galvanized over 500 tonnes of structural steelwork fabricated by Dorset-based Structural Steel Company, Snashall Steel Fabrications Ltd, to develop the new Mechanical Biological Treatment facility on the Northacre Trading Estate in Westbury.
The structural steelwork on the site is due to be completed in the autumn of 2012, with the project due for completion in 2013. When the plant is fully commissioned, it is expected it will process 60,000 tons of household waste a year, and turn it into 20,000 tons of Solid Recovered Fuel for use initially in Europe. It is also expected to reduce the proportion of Wiltshire’s waste sent to landfill by almost 20 per cent, which will have both environmental and financial benefits for the county.
Tony Wonnacott, General Manager at South West Galvanizers said: "As a company we have worked with Snashall Steel Fabrications for many years, and we are delighted to partner with them again on such an environmentally sound project."
Paul Snashall, Chairman of Snashall Steel Fabrications Ltd, added: "This is a significant construction project for Snashall Steel and was helped greatly with the timely coordination of deliveries and consistent high levels of quality from South West Galvanizers, and the Wedge Group, this ensured the project ran smoothly from concept to completion. Snashall Steel has worked with South West Galvanizers for over 20 years."
