Planning Permission Granted For Park & Ride Scheme
Guildford residents and workers will benefit from 550 additional park and ride spaces following planning permission for a new park and ride scheme in Onslow.
At a meeting, the Planning Committee agreed Surrey County Council and Guildford Borough Council's plans to help reduce traffic in the town centre.
The new scheme is located just off the A3 to the west of Guildford town centre, adjacent to the Holiday Inn hotel and Surrey Sports Park. It will be accessed from the reconfigured Egerton Road junction.
Commenting on the scheme's approval Cllr James Palmer, Lead Councillor for Town Centre Planning, said: "Onslow Park and Ride is an important part of our strategy to reduce traffic in the town centre. Developing a park and ride scheme in the west of the borough will also benefit the local economy and environment. The scheme will appeal to commuters, local residents, shoppers and visitors."
David Hodge, leader of Surrey County Council, said: "This scheme will reduce traffic congestion in and around Guildford town centre by encouraging more people to travel into the town centre by bus. It will help local businesses and benefit the environment by reducing air pollution. I believe the park and ride will also attract more visitors to Guildford.
"By working together on this scheme, the county and borough councils aim to support economic growth and improve people's quality of life."
