One of Richmond's leading primary schools has been given a substantial makeover as part of a £4.2 million expansion project.
Chase Bridge Primary School has been transformed by construction, infrastructure and design company Morgan Sindall. The project saw the company expand the school to a three form primary by creating a new link between the existing infants and junior school.
The development was phased over a period of 65 weeks to ensure minimum disruption to the pupils’ learning environment. The project included the construction of 12 new classrooms, a new block for a reception and offices, a music room, various store rooms, a sports hall, a kitchen, a library and a number of communal spaces.
Cllr Paul Hodgins, Cabinet Member for Schools at London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, said: "The success of this project shows that yet again, we are doing all we can to maximise space in our schools, create new facilities, and meet the high demand for school places in the borough. The new look school is a wonderful example of what can be achieved in joint partnership and will benefit the pupils and teachers of the school for many years to come."
The school's refurbishment also involved the transformation of the exterior of the school, with new playgrounds, footpaths and parking installed on site. No aspect was overlooked during the project which even saw the Morgan Sindall team construct a new apiary for the school's bee colony.
The project includes a number of sustainable features including a new dual fuel system and biomass boiler. It is on target to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of ‘Very Good’ for its levels of sustainability.
The completion of the development was celebrated with a special handover ceremony at the school, which was attended by school staff, pupils and members of the Morgan Sindall team.
