Latest Housing Development In Staindrop Opens

Teesdale Housing Association's latest development in the village of Staindrop near Barnard Castle has been opened by Pat Ritchie, the Chief Executive of the Homes and Communities Agency which invested over £800,000 in the new houses.

The 14 home scheme, which was developed in partnership with Durham County Council, represents a major step forward in helping meet the housing need that is increasing in the area. All of the new residents have a strong local connection to the area, and their new homes enable them to live in Staindrop when this might not have been otherwise possible.

The development, which is situated in beautiful Raby countryside, comprises of 14 spacious semi-detached and terraced two and three bedroom homes and bungalows. Teesdale Housing Association has worked closely with partners and the community to ensure that the development complimented its surroundings.

The result is a stunning development for the residents of Teesdale. More than looking beautiful, the render and stone-built houses provide excellent standards of space for new residents, as well as good sized gardens and ample parking. They are constructed to the highest standard, using cutting edge building methods including 'thin joint' block work, which allows speedy construction whilst ensuring minimum heat loss. Coupled with a wide range of eco-features including high levels of insulation and solar panels, residents will be able to enjoy warm homes and vastly reduced heating bills

The £1.65m development has been well received in the village, and the official opening of the scheme was attended by tenants, villagers, and local Councillors, as well as representatives from Durham County Council and adjacent parishes.

Mr Ritchie, who opened the scheme, said: "This scheme highlights the importance of rural housing. Our investment has helped Teesdale Housing Association provide these 14 homes that will ensure that local people can stay in their community. It is fascinating to see how large an impact investment such as this can have in a village like Staindrop."
