UCATT Pledges To Help Members After Hallam Contracts Enters Administration

Construction union UCATT is promising to do all that it can to help its members at the Leicestershire based construction company Hallam Contracts which has gone into administration.

The 100 plus workforce were told that they would be made redundant with immediate effect.

The longstanding family owned company which operated in both the private and the public sector has found trading increasingly difficult due to Government infrastructure cuts which have reduced the company’s workload.

Cheryl Pidgeon, Regional Secretary for UCATT's Midlands Region, said: "This is a bitter kick in the teeth for the workers at Hallam Contracts. Construction workers have lost their jobs in the run up to Christmas, this affects them and their families as well as the supply chain. This company has gone out of business directly as a result of Government cuts which are starving the industry of funding."

UCATT are now meeting its members and advising them on their rights, providing assistance with looking for new employment and preparing to make a joint claim for a protected award for redundancy payments and a failure to consult.
