Construction Work Begins On New Houses In Blackburn
Construction work has begun on a £1.5m development of 16 new affordable homes on a former flats site in Blackburn.
Specialist affordable homes developer, Mulbury Homes, is building the homes in North Road, Blackburn, on behalf of housing association Great Places Housing Group.
Plans for the two and three-bedroom homes, which will meet level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes, were submitted to planners back in April and approved in August.
The homes are being built on a parcel of land formerly occupied by dilapidated flats that were pulled down a number of years ago. The site is opposite the recently completed Valley Lane development in North Road.
The homes are being funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) with four of the properties being made available for shared ownership and the remaining 12 homes for affordable rent. Building work is scheduled to last around 12-months.
Greg Mulligan, a director of Mulbury Homes, said: "We are very pleased to have building work underway and we’re working closely with our building partners and the local authority to minimise any disruption in the area for local residents."
