Lancaster & Morecambe College's Building Project Receives Additional Funding

Lancaster & Morecambe College's building project has secured additional funding bringing a much welcomed boost to construction trade in the area.

The building work at Lancaster & Morecambe College is being carried out by Kier Construction and is currently nearing completion of the first phase. An additional £1.5 million grant which has been secured from the National Skills Funding Agency will allow the College to invest additional funds into the second phase of the project which will see the continued modernisation of the campus facilities.

The project to update the Morecambe Road site is worth a total of £15m and the College is working closely with Kier to keep as much of the business as possible local. This additional funding will bring a much needed boost to the local economy.

Local business have been encouraged to bid for work on the project at a 'Meet the Buyer' event held in October and Kier site manager Phil Shepherd has attended local Chamber of Commerce events to promote opportunities to work on the build, resulting in a local joinery company securing a contract.

The new phase of the project will see the redevelopment and re-cladding of existing buildings including a new rear entrance to the College, and the refurbishment of the ground floor to create exemplary catering and social facilities for staff and students.
