Rail HQ Gets On The Right Track With Planet
Planet Partitioning, the UK's largest independently owned partitioning specialist, working in collaboration with BAM construction and GMW Architects have completed a bespoke refurbishment of all the internal glazing for the Network Rail headquarters in Milton Keynes (The Quadrant:MK).
The Scope of works stretched across four buildings in The Quadrant:MK which spans over 4000,000 sq. ft., is the latest in innovate design bringing together teams to improve rail systems across the nation. Products used included Planets Advanced Frameless Glazing, single and double glazed configurations, as well as Planet’s hinged frameless single glazed doors.
Due to the mixed usage of offices, meeting rooms and public spaces the partitions were designed to achieve high acoustic levels, to provide privacy and a calm working environment for over 3,000 people from across the country. Planets acoustic rated glass is one of the best in the UK with ratings from 20 dB Rw – which will make normal speech readily audible to 54 dB Rw – which will block out the sound of shouting.
To stay in keeping with Network Rails new image, manifestations were designed by an artist for some of the internal glass as well as block colours to add a bright and aesthetically pleasing appearance to the internal areas.
Network Rail are dedicated to limiting the environmental impact of the buildings and therefore have used natural ventilation, ‘Living roofs’, recycled rain water in bathrooms and shaded glass throughout the building providing natural light but shading the people working inside.
Facilities at the building include a gym, food courts, a convenience store and over 250 bicycle parking spaces.
Job Value - £350,000- £400,000
