£5m To Be Invested In New Homes For Leeds

Two of Leeds' most deprived communities are in line to benefit from a major a programme of investment in their homes and the local environment.

Leeds City Council's executive board will be asked to agree the project proposals for Cross Green and the Nevilles and invest £5million from the capital programme at a meeting on Friday 15 February. Further investment is expected to come through the government's Green Deal and Energy Company Obligations schemes.

The projects will include improvements to the environmental performance of both private and council houses, designed to help people with affordable heating and improve the longer term health of residents. Work to the homes will be accompanied by upgrades to roads and open spaces and a community fund for small scale environmental and energy efficiency projects.

The investment is expected to improve the sustainability of these communities, making them more desirable places to live in the long term and complementing anticipated investment in the adjoining Aire Valley employment area.

The programmes will be completed between 2013-2016.
