Northampton Borough Council has awarded Mears Group a new contract to deliver its Phase 3 Decent Homes works.

The works are for both internal and external refurbishment of homes in and around Northampton and include rewiring, heating and the installation of new kitchens and bathrooms.

This will be the third phase of Decent Homes improvements in Northampton. £32.3 million funding has come from the Government’s Decent Homes Backlog fund and the money will be spent over two years. This means that by March 2015 all council homes in the Borough will meet the Decent Homes Standard.


The new project start will coincide with the successful completion of the Mears team's four-year Decent Homes partnership with South Northants Homes. This contract is drawing to a close following its 18 month extension for good performance and so this contract with Northampton Borough Council will continue Mears’ successful local presence for the foreseeable future.

Regional Operations Manager Damon Ellis said: "This is an excellent boost for the Northampton based team; they have worked really hard to deliver a great project for South Northants and are now looking forward to a new challenge. We are very excited by the win."
