Central Govt Approves Planning Permission For Liverpool Waters

Central Government have made and confirmed their decision today to approve Liverpool Council's decision to grant planning permission for Peel's massive redevelopment of the disused parts of the docks named Liverpool Waters.

This is the end of 6 years of hard work by Peel, its team of expert consultants and the City Council all working together in partnership.

This confirms Peel's contention that this development will be a huge benefit in every sense of the word to Liverpool to move this great city forward into a new era of prosperity, all which will compliment and benefit the heritage and history of this site.

Most of the Liverpool Waters site, formerly known as Central Docks, has been unused and derelict for decades. The ships that transport goods around the world are simply too big to moor in these docks anymore and the ships are getting bigger.

Liverpool Waters will bring these entire docks back into use with a variety of uses that will connect the city centre to a wider and more interesting and vibrant waterfront that will satisfy the needs of this century and help drive Liverpool forward to be the UK’s second city to London.

Development Director of Peel Lindsey Ashworth said: "This is a well-deserved reward and justice for all those who never gave up supporting this scheme.

"It's our Government wishing a Happy New Year to Peel and Liverpool.

"A big thanks goes to the people of Liverpool who have been behind us all the way.

"English Heritage together with the World Heritage Body UNESCO put up massive obstacles to prevent this development proposal getting permission.

Their studies and arguments have all collapsed and rightly so as it's simply not right to expect derelict parts of cities with such a rich history to stand still and be fossilized."
