Stevenage Council Homes Unveiled

Stevenage Borough Council celebrated the completion of a groundbreaking deal to purchase 21 new homes which will be rented to local families and young people in need of affordable accommodation.

The 6.39 acre site on Hertford Road will comprise nine, three bedroom, houses and 12, one and two bedroom, apartments and represents the first new homes to be owned, rented and managed by the Council in nearly 30 years.

The development, which has a gross value of around £10m, is the result of a deal struck between Logic Stevenage LLP, a joint venture housing consortium which specialises in mixed tenure housing, and Stevenage Borough Council. The land was provided from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the government's national housing and land agency for England, as part of a partnership project between the Logic Stevenage LLP, the Council and the HCA. It will deliver 100 new homes in total - 24 for private sale and the remainder as affordable rent and intermediate housing.

Councillor Sharon Taylor OBE, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, commented: "I am delighted to be unveiling our first Stevenage council homes for nearly 30 years. Good quality affordable housing is critical to the future of our town and the council has made it a priority to explore different ways of delivering it. This landmark new development gives us the opportunity to own and manage much needed new council houses which will be homes for Stevenage people from our waiting list."
