Kier Starts Work On £11.4m Housing Development
Kier Partnership Homes has started work on a new £11.4m housing development on the former Ensor’s abattoir site on Valley Road, Cinderford.
Kier is now on site building 92 environmentally sustainable homes for Forest of Dean District Council, Cinderford Town Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The scheme will offer a range of homes varying in size from one-bedroom flats through to four-bedroom houses, and will deliver 55 homes for open market sale and 37 affordable dwellings. It will be managed by Two Rivers Housing Association, with Kier handling the sale of the open market housing.
The residential development will benefit from features such as an eco-swale at the front of the scheme, providing a habitat for wildlife in the area; a central public space, and a loop road for ease of access through the site.
Chris King, managing director of Kier Partnership Homes, said: "Part of our winning strategy was understanding the importance of good design, and ensuring the use of a local supply chain. Working in partnership with and understanding the needs of our clients, and local residents, makes Kier Partnership Homes the number one provider of high quality affordable homes in the market place; we are proud to be part of the much needed regeneration of the area."
The Valley Road project is part of the partners' wider plans to regenerate Cinderford by delivering new and affordable homes, jobs and improved educational facilities in the town. The scheme will start with the demolition of the existing abattoir, which has moved to larger premises on the Valley Road Industrial park to allow for business growth and safeguarding of 130 jobs.
