Willmott Dixon will further strengthen its track-record for building high-quality care homes after being appointed by Housing 21 for a £4.7m contract to provide 21 one-bedroom and 17 two-bedroom flats.
The scheme, called Leacroft, is located in Common Lane, Harpenden, and is being developed by Housing 21 in partnership with St Albans City and District Council. It forms part of the Council’s strategy to redevelop sheltered housing sites in the St Albans District to replace dated facilities that do not meet current space standards or requirements for wheelchair accessibility.
Housing 21 and Willmott Dixon have worked extensively over a number of years to deliver several hundred homes across the country tailored to the varied living requirements of the over-55s.
Debbie Waldron, care sector manager for Willmott Dixon said: "We are pleased to be teaming up again with Housing 21 to deliver homes in Harpenden that provide accommodation for people from a very important part of our society. The homes at Leacroft are self-contained with shared communal space giving the residents the opportunity of living their lives independently, which our feedback has shown is a popular option.
"Working with Housing 21, we’ll be bringing our collective experience and know-how to provide homes and a living environment that allow people in the latter stages of their lives to enjoy an active and independent lifestyle, while also living in a community they can depend on, with close support and care provision when required."
